sandra endo. another big story happening today is the weather. we're keeping an eye on florida this morning. we'll be checking in there live in just a bit because they're certainly getting ready for a storm. >> the some storm is over cuba right now. lynette, as you look rther out, you've been telling us we could have other problems weather-wise here? >> exactly. yes you know that storm is going to bring problems to us. we're talking about windy conditions. it's going to get very cold down the line as well. but for today, let's just bask in today because we will have some very nasty weather as we head into the latter part of the weekend. the beginning of next week. so this morning, we do have the patchy fog out there this morning, we have reduced visibility, you can see these numbers, not at 10. 10 is the ideal number that we like to be. we can see 3 in baltimore now. more of the same in frederick. 4 in york and 5 in d.c. as well as easton along the shore and we are going to be heading out to the bus stop where the temperature coming in at 60 degrees this morning for the kids. they don't need the heavy coat just like they didn't need

all right, being sick in e hospital can be scary especially for kin. >> what one hospital did to get the sickness off their minds. "good morning maryland" at 5:00 begins right now. a pastor under the gun for comments made against homosexuality. he preaching the word or is this hate stream? claims of sexual abuse, that's what one of the d.c. snipers is saying happened to him in the months leading up to the deadly attack. and bearing down on the florida coast, sandy is now a category 2 hurricane tracking just south of the atlantic coastline. we're following that storm's path and how it could affect you in the days to come. on this thursday, october 25th. "good morning maryland." i'm charlie crowson. >> and i'm megan pringle, thank you for joining us. that storm really is one of the big stories today. >> yeah, lynette's been following it for a number of hours now overnight. you guys really are watching this lynette. >> oh yes we have an eye on it

because it could be affecting us into sunday, monday and also tuesday. so this is hurricane sandy now and we can see the eye. it is weakening a bit from the last time i showed you but once it reemerges back into the waters it will gather some strength and we can already see the outer bands already lashing southeastern florida. this will make the track up to the north and again, all the models most of the models taking it just off the coast some of the models taking it inland. we definitely still have to try to get this storm under control and see where it's going to go. but even if it stays off the coast, we will be impacted by this storm in terms of the cold weather and also some very windy conditions and rain as well. so let's talk about what's going on right now. so we can get you out the door this morning. maryland's most powerful radar is dry. not dealing with any type of wet weather this morning. this afternoon will be the same. so no rain gear is needed. and as we check out what's going on in ocean city, that temperature coming in at 62

degrees right now. the winds will be out of the east today. that's going to help keep the temperatures down that's more of the easterly flow. on shore flow rather. and elkton's temperature coming in at 59 degrees right now. as we see what's going on with the planner throughout the day you wake up temperature right around 60 degrees and we have some patchy fog out there. so speaking of the patchy fog, let's give it over to lauren cook to tell you about the roads. good morning. good morning lynette. definitely want to turn on the low beams to combat all the fog this morning because there's a lot of reduced visibility across the region. here on 83 though everything is up to speed. no problems traveling from york road all the way down to 695. and this is what the beltway looks like in towson at delaney valley road. no problems to report. 11 minute ride on the outer loop from 95 all the way up to 83. the west side of the beltway is nice and clear. it's going to take you 11 minutes as well to travel the outer loop from 795 down towards 95. and 95 at the fort mchenry tunnel no problems the report there. you're looking at a typical eight minute ride right now traveling northbound from the

beltway all the way to the toll plaza. that is a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic. megan and charlie, over to you. in less than two weeks you'll be heading to the polls and here in maryland, there are several key issues on the ballot. one of them whether to legalize same sex marriage and this morning some controversial comments are surfacing coming from a local pastor. abc2 news linda so is live this morning in federal hill with the details. what did he say? >> reporter: in the taped speech the pastor said that people who engage in homosexual behavior are quote worthy of death and so are the people who support them. pastor robert anderson of the colonial baptist church made the comment earlier this month during a meeting while quoting the bible. the head of the maryland marriage alliance, an organization that opposes same sex marriage released a statement saying pastor anderson's comment was not a call to harm gays and lesbians but supporters of same sex marriage say it borders on hate speech.

>> i think it's totally wrong. i think it's disrespectful. i think it's mean-spirited. and i think they should apologize for it. >> reporter: now the issue on whether to legalize same sex marriage in maryland will appear as question 6 on the november ballot. we're live in federal hill, linda so, abc2 news. well, still undecided on question 6 a meeting is being held to discuss the issue. it's happening tomorrow night. it's called let's talk about marriage, love, commitment and equality. voting against question 6. it's been sponsored by the maryland marriage alliance. it's happening from 7:00 to 8:30 at the chesapeake christian fellowship in davidsonville. lee boyd malvo claims he was sexually abused by john allen mohammed. he says until he was arrested from the time he was 15 mohammed abused him. it's been ten years since they terrorized the nation's capital

killing ten people. malvo is serving a life sentence and said it took him years to come to terms with the abuse. he'll appear this morning on a talk show talking about the abuse. four minutes after 5:00 right now. >> a handsful of high school students face a dozen charges after police say they were involved in a two month long crime spree. the students are accused of damaging more than 100 cars and causing more than $20,000 in damage. the teens were arrested when officers pulled them over for speeding and they found evidence inside the car. investigators say the teens' parents were key in making the children admit to the crimes and returning that stolen property. police are questioning the man they say killed a volunteer inside an atlanta area megachurch and he has a connection to baltimore. officers arrested floyd palmer at the mall in atlanta wednesday afternoon. he walked into the chapel of the world of changes church international and opened fire during a prayer service police say. he was once committed to a

mental health facility. he was released that following year. he caused panic on campus and today, he is going to learn his fate. alexander song threatened to go on a shooting rampage at the university of maryland where he pled guilty to disturbing the peace and misuse of telephone facilities. it's part of the plea deal, he is going to do 200 hours of community service and also report to a mental health court for status hearings. the cast of the musical wicked is now taking a break from the stage talking to kids about bullying. they're going to be working with students in baltimore today at the booker t. washington school. they're going to teach kids to stand up to bullies and what to do if they see someone else being bullied. we buckled up for him and he brought a winning baseball back to baltimore. now orioles' manager buck showalter is getting some much deserved recognition. sporting news named him the

american league manager of the year for the 2011 season. he went on to say the team and his coaches were a big part of him winning that award. time now for a check of the forecast, let's go back over to lynette. big stories with you today. >> big stories today. because it's going to be setting up for what we're in store for the weekend. so let's take a look at the big picture here and your eyes go over towards the west. right? you see some snow across that area. this is going to be a player in the game as we go into the weekend. then let me step out of the way. you can see all this cloud cover. this is coming from hurricane sandy. this will be moving up the coast as we go through time as well. the two will come together and it could be a disaster but the only thing is still not quite sure of the track. we're going to try to fine tune that for you and i'll talk more about sandy coming up and right now let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. good morning lynned. well, we are really -- lynette. well, we are really off to a foggy start. do expect reduced visibility. no delays heading downtown in white marsh. as far as 83 is concerned it's going to take you 11 minutes

today. let you know exactly how the storm's tracking. it's slowly gained strength overnight and it hit jamaica yesterday at about 80 miles per hour. the wind speeds as a category 1 storm. one man died on the island when a boulder rolled on top of his home but in haiti a woman died when she was swept away by a river she was trying to cross. about 70% of jamaica is without power this morning and thousands are living in shelters. in the meantime forecasters here in the u.s. they're keeping a very close eye on sandy as lynette has demonstrated throughout the day. they say she could produce tropical storm-like conditions along the florida coast by tomorrow morning and in fort lauderdale the waves are already starting the get choppy. they know some people just can't resist. >> the expert surfers will be out there. so we just tell them to be careful and we're there if they need our help to go out there and get them. >> if national hurricane center says candy will travel never -- sandy will travel north parallelling the east coast.

it's already monitoring the storm and already preparing for the possibility of outages should they come our way this weekend. we have you on abc2news.com ahead of the storm: you and megan are out there right now. this is top priority isn't it? >> it sure is megan. >> you know i think big issue too i think that people worry about with the big storm is losing power. that's good as vice because who knows. >> very good advice. the one thing we do know megan it's going to get breezy and cold and windy in spots, how much rain we'll see? that will be determined and beach erosion upon the track and again we still have to fine tune the forecast. but this is what i can tell you right now. we have hurricane sandy the winds sustained now at 105 miles an hour. so we are looking at a category 2 hurricane. and we're going to be actually dealing with it strengthening. right now it actually is a 1 and it will strengthen to a 2

and then drop back down to the tropical storm again. that's good news but the fact is is that that tropical storm is still going to be a strong tropical storm. winds of 70 miles an hour and four more than that that's a category 1 hurricane. so you can see what's going on as we bring it up along the coast. you'll want to follow the line down the middle but we we have the cone of uncertainty and it could go more towards the west and more towards the east. we're hoping the east but even if it does so this is a big storm that's going to come in contact with some very cold air. and with that it's going to have a large wind field. that's why i'm talking about that. we know we're going to be dealing with some very windy conditions. for today the winds out of the east at about 5 to 10 miles an hour. nothing like what we can expect through time. temperatures on the mild side this morning from the upper 50s to the low 60s. future trend not picking up on a whole lot for today. just a sun/cloud mix into the afternoon. the morning time as well. and then we talk about

temperatures for today. we will warm up to about 69 degrees by lunchtime. the high coming in at 72. by saturday, we'll be at 69 degrees so you can see that trend going down. here's that forecast for you. cooler stormy, gusty windy, pretty bad. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. good morning. good morning lynette. well we are dealing with patchy fog across the region so definitely turn on the low beams this morning. slow down please be extra careful because there's a lot of reduced visibility out there. if you are traveling on 83, as we use abc2's abc2 timesaver traffic travel time you'll notice no problems to report just 11 minutes southbound from towson right now all the way down to fayette street. everything will remain up to speed. traveling through the fort mchenry tunnel, as well as the harbor tunnel. and if you are using the beltway this morning, here's what it looks like right now in parkville. everything moving right along. no delays on the inner loop down towards 95 or the outer loop up towards towson. this is what the west side looks like at old court road. traffic picking up on the outer loop but no significant delays at all as you make the push

thanks for staying with us on this thursday morning. a broken window, furniture overturned. trash everywhere. it looked like someone had broken into a mississippi business. luckily for police the culprit was still inside. it was a deer. it crashed through the window then made his way into the break room. employees shut him inside there until help arrived and animal control officer got the deer. the animal is expected to be okay. being sick in a hospital is no fun especially when you're a child. which is why three window washers came up with a plan to put smiles on the faces of ill children. check this out. they dressed up as superheroes and dang until front of the windows of a hospital in tennessee. dozens of kids and their parents filled up the family rooms to get a peek at spiderman and captain america. it was a great feeling to know that just for a few minutes the children could forget about being sick. if you are married with
